The advising task should have a verbal orientation.
If the problem environment requires extensive visual reference to
physical objects or graphical information that cannot be described
verbally, it might very difficult to implement an expert system
with a conventional rule-based shell. An expert system solution might
be possible, but probably would require an expensive, custom built implementation. |

Test case examples should be available.
Expert systems are built to solve problems that
have been solved before: the focus in expert systems is on the
application of heuristics that derive from experience in solving the
problem. Documented test cases will provide a list of the factors that
were present each time the problem was solved along with the solution.
Test cases might be found already documented or could be constructed with
the help of the expert. |
